New LG Smartphone's HD IPS Trumps iPhone 4S' Visuals (VIDEO)
Today at the Computer Electronics Show press event, LG unveiled a new smartphone that boasts better HD visuals that Apple’s iPhone 4S.
LG’s new smartphone, the "LG Spectrum," is heading to the Verizon network on Jan. 19. This smartphone will retail for $199 with a 2-year contract. This device comes with a variety of attractive features that may be of interest to eager tech heads.
One of the more noteworthy features is its True HD IPS display. The screen will come with 329 pixels per inch, which is an improvement over the iPhone 4S' 326 pixels per inch. The display comes in at 4.5-inches with a resolution of 1280x720.
The screen’s brightness has a rating of 520-nits. It also supports Dolby Digital Plus.
The device sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, 1080p full HD recording, and video playback and exclusive 720p HD content from ESPN ScoreCenter. More pre-loaded content apps, such as Netflix and YouTube, are also available.
The operating system the LG Spectrum runs on will be Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Although it won’t sport the current Android 4.0 OS, LG announced that it will be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich at a later date.
The smartphone will weigh only 5-ounces, include a 16GB microSD card pre-installed with support for up to 32GB of storage, and also perform as a 4G Mobile Hotspot on Verizon's LTE network. Up to 10 Wi-Fi devices will be able to utilize the Spectrum’s online capabilities.
