New Orleans Pelicans, Brooklyn Nets NBA Trade Rumors: Pelicans Look to Acquire Brook Lopez from Nets

It's the same story every season. Anthony Davis may be one of the best players in the league, but the New Orleans Pelicans have always failed to give him a reliable frontcourt partner who can take the load off his shoulders. Well, that may change soon because reports suggest the team is trying to acquire a center who can complement Davis before the trade deadline.

Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders has reported that the Pelicans have discussed a trade with the Brooklyn Nets for Brook Lopez. Apparently, the team is willing to give up Tyreke Evans, Tim Frazier, Langston Galloway, and a protected 2018 first-round draft pick for the center.

Lopez is an offensive-minded center who has always been an efficient scorer in the paint and the midrange spots. He has also added a three-point shot to his arsenal this season, so he can stretch the floor and give Davis lots of room to operate. Lopez is not a good rebounder, but Davis can handle the boards.

The Nets have been trying to trade Lopez for some time now, but sources say they want two first-round draft picks in return. Can the Pelicans buy him away from the Nets with their current offer? That's one first-round pick short.

Right now, the Pelicans still have an outside chance of making the playoffs, but they will have to act fast. Ömer Aşık has been a complete non-factor on offense during his entire tenure with the team and he has dropped out of the rotation. Alexis Ajinça isn't any better either as their current starting center. Donatas Motiejunas can play some center, however, he has a history with back injuries and he has been inconsistent so far.

Aside from Lopez, reports also say the Pelicans have offered the Philadelphia 76ers Ajinça and a first-round pick in exchange for center Jahlil Okafor. No deal has materialized so far.
