New Orleans Saints NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Adrian Peterson Signs Deal With Saints
Adrian Peterson has finally found a new home.
The New Orleans Saints has officially announced that Peterson has agreed to join the team on a two-year deal. The terms of the contract were not officially disclosed, but the All-Pro running back told ESPN's Josina Anderson the contract was worth seven-million dollars and it includes a $2.5 million signing bonus and a one million dollar guaranteed in the first year of the deal.
So, it's basically a one-year deal with an option for the second year. There are also incentives in his contract and he may earn up to $8.25 million if he reaches those goals.
Peterson talked about how excited he was to join the Saints in a statement and he said he was looking forward to playing with his new teammates.
"On offense, it goes without saying that the Saints are really solid behind Drew Brees. I feel like my skill set can make them even more dominant as a unit," Peterson said in the statement.
With Tim Hightower gone, Peterson will be sharing backfield duties with Mark Ingram.
"I think the role will be very clear and defined," Saints head coach Sean Payton told reporters at the Zurich Classic Celebrity Shootout.
"It's a tough, long 16-week season. I think that he's someone that certainly will be able to complement Mark. Those guys are different in some ways, and yet we feel like we've added another quality player," he continued.
Ingram also attended the celebrity shootout and he told reporters that he doesn't have a problem sharing the ball with Peterson. He said he happens to be a big fan of the former Minnesota Vikings running back and he welcomes the opportunity to learn from Peterson. "The résumé, the name speaks for itself," he said, according to NOLA.com.
It is going to be interesting to see Peterson suit up against his old team next season. The Saints will open the season against the Vikings on Sept. 11.
