Adrian Peterson to Visit New Orleans Saints Next Week
Adrian Peterson did not really do much after visiting the Seattle Seahawks last month. He might not be in a hurry to sign with a new team, but he has been quite active lately.
Peterson visited the New England Patriots earlier this week and his next stop is going to be New Orleans. NFL.com's Heath Evans has reported that the Saints will be hosting the All-Pro running back next week, and ESPN's Josina Anderson said Peterson has confirmed that he will travel to visit the team on Tuesday.
Well, the Saints aren't exactly a perfect fit for Peterson unless he wants to step back and let someone else take the load. Is he willing to become a complimentary piece? The Saints already have a clear-cut number one running back in Mark Ingram and Peterson cannot possibly displace him.
Peterson's inactivity the past few weeks may prove to be his undoing. Running back-needy teams have already made their move and some are planning to add one or two via the draft.
Peterson might have listed a number of teams as potential landing spots if he leaves Minnesota. But so far, none of those teams have shown interest in signing him. Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter seemed intrigued when he found out that Peterson was working out with his starting quarterback, Jameis Winston. However, the Buccaneers never gave him a call, so the free-agency tour continues.
Peterson is going to sign with a team sooner or later and he's going to play next season. But pundits have noted that his style of play may not be a fit in most offensive schemes.
"Peterson is a running back coming to grips with an NFL that sees him as a player who has limited use in a majority of shotgun-heavy offenses. While speculation surrounding his snail-paced free agency have ranged from injuries to salary to off-field issues, two executives who spoke to Yahoo Sports last week hung Peterson's lingering unemployment on one overriding issue: His strengths in single-back or I-formations don't fit a wide variety of NFL offenses anymore," Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson said in his report.
"Some (and arguably many) franchises are looking at Peterson as a lower-volume player in their schemes," he added.
