New Orleans Saints NFL Trade Rumors: Saints Not Planning to Sign Johnny Manziel

Remember the report about the New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton meeting Johnny Manziel during Super Bowl week? Well, it's true the two did have breakfast together in Houston. However, it was only a brief meeting, not a formal interview, and Payton didn't ask Manziel to join the Saints.

Payton spoke with reporters at the annual league meeting in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday and he shed some light on the meeting that took place between them last month.

"It was my first time having a chance to talk to him. I'll leave it at that," Payton said, according to USA Today.

"That was just what it was. I'm sure he's got a handful of things he's got to do step-wise to get himself back in position to sign with a club and play football again. Made sense to me to get to know him a little bit," he continued.

Payton also said Manziel still has some flaws he has to work on, but he does have the arm talent and skill set to succeed in the National Football League (NFL). "He's got a skill set that's unique — good feet, he can create. I've seen him play one game live," he stated during the interview.

Well, looks like Manziel may not join the Saints after all. They can always change their mind, though, since Payton didn't close the door on the possibility of adding him to their roster. However, Chase Daniel just joined the Saints and they don't really need another quarterback right now.

A source close to the team also told Bleacher Report's Jason Cole that the Saints are not interested in signing Manziel, so his chances of joining them are quite slim right now.

Meanwhile, Manziel should draw some interest from teams that are still looking for a quarterback if he takes his comeback bid seriously.
