A new seminary associated with an international network of Christian educational institutions will open this year in Grayson County, Texas, to further serve those who seek Biblically-based higher learning.

Kingsway Christian College of Sherman is set to begin classes on Sept. 19. The fully-accredited, non-denominational Bible College and Seminary is a satellite of the Kingsway Christian College and Theological Seminary in Des Moines, Iowa. The new college will join more than 70 other organizations as part of the Kingsway International College Network, founded by Dr. D.L. Browning.

Dr. Browning founded the original college in Iowa in 1967, with the dream to “build God an army- for His Glory.” The colleges strive to stay “committed to the time honored teachings of the Bible, yet ‘staying in step with the times’ to make relevant application of these eternal principles.” To better prepare students for ministry, the schools challenge students to develop an understanding of what they believe and why.

The new facility in Sherman will offer a certificate program, Bachelor’s programs, a Psychology and Christian Counseling program, and a Doctorate of Theology program. The school year will consist of two semesters, 15 weeks each.

The new president, Dr. C.D. Ballard, participated in choosing the faculty to serve at the college, saying that the decisions were based on their desire and heart to educate others on the word of God.

“We are not going to insist that all students believe the same things we believe, but they need to be able to support the stand they take,” said Ballard to the Herald Democrat.

“We want to give students the tools to discover for themselves the truth of the Word of God.”

Joining Ballard are Dr. Ricky D. Parker, leader of New Wine Ministries Inc., a Christian ministry that provides counseling and trains counselors; Reverend Stan McNutt, pastor of Community Lighthouse Church; Reverend Charles Niblet, pastor of Greater Harvest North Church of Sherman; and Reverend Clifton Eaton, pastor of Harmony Baptist Church of Sherman.

The first year’s course offerings include classes on the Pentateuch, the books of Acts 1 and Philippians, and courses titled Foundations of Faith and Lovers of God. More information can be obtained by contacting the college at (903) 813-8213.
