New York Castle for Sale: $1 Million With Basketball Court, Rifle Range (PHOTOS)
A former armory for the National Guard resembling a medieval castle is up for sale in New York.
The New York Castle is selling for $1 million in Amsterdam, New York. Modeled after a medieval castle, the structure was built in 1894 by the National Guard. It was originally intended to serve as the state armory and according to reports, is now one of the few armories left that has been converted into a home.
The castle once hosted members from the 105th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 2nd New York Infantry, whose members served in the Civil War, the Spanish-America War, the Mexican Border dispute of 1916, World War I, and World War II. The basement of the 36,000 square-foot home includes a full basketball court, billiard room, kitchen, communal showers, and a rifle range.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places New York, the upper floors of the home are more luxurious and formerly served as the officer's quarters. The floors include multiple bedrooms, sittings rooms, and family rooms. The structure was originally purchased in 2005 and underwent extensive renovation to preserve its 1800's Victorian décor, according to the realtor site Sothesbys.
All materials used to restore the home are "environmentally friendly" according the site. The castle is located about three hours outside of New York City and is 30 miles away from Albany. It is also a 35 minute drive from Saratoga Springs.
The $1 million price tag seems a bit too affordable for some.
"I don't believe for a minute it's really for sale for a million bucks. Just can't be true," one user commented on the Huffington Post.
