New York Fashion Week Stokes Backlash as 6-Year-Old Gyrates on Catwalk
Parents across America have expressed outrage, and are questioning why a girl aged just six was allowed to gyrate on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
TLC reality show Toddlers & Tiaras’ Eden Wood was modeling for children’s footwear brand Cicciabella with hotpants and a crop top, and was filmed dancing inappropriately at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
In a new episode of Toddlers and Tiaras earlier this month, the American audience was shocked when a three-year-old appeared dressed as a prostitute. Her mother dressed her in a costume worn by Julia Roberts in the film Pretty Woman.
The Parents Television Council said, “We have a serious problem when a network formerly known as The Learning Channel features a toddler, who probably hasn't even learned to read, dressed as a prostitute showing off her sexy strut,” according to radaronline.com.
The group continued, “There's no question, TV executives are complicit in robbing these small kids of their childhood.
“For years we've seen adult sexuality being inappropriately and aggressively foisted on innocent young children, but children today are being sexualized at younger and younger ages. All available data suggests they will suffer for it later in life.”
Dancing down the catwalk on the last day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was Eden’s first fashion endorsement after retiring from the child pageant with over 300 trophies to date.
