New York Film Festival 2013: Captain Phillips With Tom Hanks to Open the NYFF (VIDEO TRAILER)
The Film Society of Lincoln Center has recently announced that Paul Greengrass's latest film, Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks, will open the New York Film Festival (NYFF).
"It is a pleasure to welcome back Paul Greengrass to the New York FIlm Festival with the world premiere of his gripping drama 'Captain Phillips,'" Rose Kuo, the Executive Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, said in a press release.
The film stars Tom Hanks in the title role of Captain Richard Phillips, who put himself in the hands of Somali pirates when the Maersk Alabama ship he was piloting was hijacked in 2009.

"Tom Hanks is terrific at capturing the vulnerability, terror and heroism of the harrowing journey of 'Captain Phillips,'" said Kuo.
The festival's director of programming, Kent Jones, has said he is excited that this "tough," "tense" and "real-life thriller" is opening the 51st edition of the festival.
"Captain Phillips is a riveting experience," he said.
Captain Phillips is based on the book A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy Seals and Dangerous Days at Sea by Captain Richard Phillips and Stephan Talty, with the screenplay by Billy Ray.
Last year's Festival was opened by "Life of Pi."
The 51st New York Film Festival 2013 is expected to take place between 27 September and 13 October.
