New York Jets NFL Trade Rumors 2017: Jets Not Interested in Quarterback Jay Cutler

The New York Jets had four quarterbacks last season in Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty; however, they have been atrocious. Fitzpatrick is now a free agent and Smith is unlikely to return as well, so it's clear that the team will have to look elsewhere for its starting quarterback next season.

When the Jets hired Jeremy Bates as their quarterbacks' coach, many began speculating that they might try to acquire Jay Cutler to solve their quarterback woes. However, ESPN's Rich Cimini has reported that they won't be targeting the Chicago Bears quarterback.

"Cutler is expected to be cut or traded by the Bears, but don't expect him to land with the Jets. From what I hear, they won't be suitors for Cutler. I think Tyrod Taylor (if he's cut by the Bills) and free agent Mike Glennon are higher in the Jets' pecking order than Cutler," Cimini said in his report.

The Jets still have a lot of options. Sources also note that the team is interested in drafting Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson if he falls into their lap at sixth overall.

Bates has worked with Cutler for four seasons — three with the Denver Broncos and one with the Bears. Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall and Cutler also played together for six seasons — three with the Broncos and three with the Bears, so those two are used to playing with each other.

A number of pundits have pointed out that Cutler is not the answer to the Jets' quarterback problems. He's clearly on the decline and he only played five games last season due to injuries. Furthermore, he did not even play well either when he was healthy. Others believe that it may be better if they continue to develop Hackenberg and Petty.

Right now, Cutler's future with the Bears is unclear. But it seems that the Jets just aren't interested in him.
