New York Jets Wide Receiver Jeremy Kerley Suspended for Four Games by the NFL for PED Violation
The New York Jets will have to make do without wide receiver Jeremy Kerley for the next four games because he was caught violating league rules.
The team has announced that Kerley has been suspended by the National Football League (NFL) for four games without pay for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
The NFL did disclose the substance that led to the suspension, but Kerley has released a statement saying he has been tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid. However, he has insisted he has never taken performance-enhancing drugs — at least not knowingly.
"While I did not have enough time prior to the deadline to resolve this case, I fully intend to investigate this matter until I am able to figure out what caused the positive test, because I know that I have done nothing wrong. When I find out what substance was tainted, I will pursue all remedies at that time because this is not right. I have and will always be a clean player, and I look forward to returning to the Jets to play against the Saints next month," Kerley said in the statement, via the Jets' official website.
Jets head coach Todd Bowles has noted that they knew for some time now that Kerley might get suspended, so this didn't catch them by surprise. He also said rookies Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart were expected to see a significant increase in playing time.
The Jets have Jalin Marshall, JoJo Natson and Demore'ea Stringfellow on their practice squad as well, and they might decide to promote one of them to the active roster.
Kerley has recorded 22 receptions for 217 yards and a touchdown as a bit-part player with the Jets this season. He joined the team in September after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers.
