New York Knicks Rumors: Cleanthony Early Robbed, Shot Outside Strip Club
It's like a scene in a crime drama or an action thriller — a group of robbers wearing masks trapped and boxed in a taxi cab with a New York Knicks player inside. The group demanded that the small forward give up his stuff, particularly his "gold," and when he did, they shot him in the leg.
According to authorities, the incident happened outside a strip club where Early was just about leaving, which means that the robbery might have been carefully planned. He left the club in Queens together with his girlfriend at around 4:30, riding an Uber cab, when suddenly two cars with six masked robbers got out and started yelling. Early couldn't do anything but give up his two gold chains before shots were fired. The same police report said that both Early's girlfriend and the driver were unharmed.
The 24-year-old was then rushed to the hospital but wasn't really put in critical danger. He was at the Elmhurst Hospital where reports are saying that he was already in stable condition before being transferred to another medical facility.
According to an ESPN report, the bullet that hit Early went through and did not lodge on his knee. Also, it said that there is so far no news of any major structural damage, which means that there is no need for surgery at this time. This is positive news for Early and the New York Knicks who can't afford to miss even a single game in a tight Eastern Conference.
The month of December hasn't been pretty for the Knicks, at least outside the court. Earlier this month, another forward, Derrick Williams was robbed by two women he invited in his apartment. The things he lost were reportedly worth $617,000 in total, including a Rolex watch, necklace, Louis Vuitton bag, and a diamond bracelet.
By the looks of it, head coach Derek Fisher might have to be stricter about imposing curfews to players in line with these recent robberies.
