Newdow's Pledge Challenge Inspires Book on America's Religious Heritage
A parent concered with his daughter growing up in a land that looks down on religion writes a book documenting American's religious heritage through presidential quotes and religious displays.
Unlike Michael Newdow, Ken Clifton is a parent who supports keeping the Under God phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance. Not only that, he doesnt want America to be disconnected with its religious heritage so much that hes written a book compiling quotes and text on the matter.
"I was shocked that such a lawsuit could even be considered in this nation," said the Texas native. "It made me concerned for the land my daughter will grow up in that religion has moved from a default to an extreme position to hold."
Inspired by Newdows challenge to the Pledge, Clifton collected all the Presidential quotes referring to religion, most notably Christianity, and even documented religious displays in the government to develop his book, A Nation Under God.
What sets Cliftons books apart from other books containing religious text the miminial amount of commentary on the text and more of the religious text itself in print.
"I didn't want people to just take my word for it, but to read the texts and consider it for themselves, he said.
