Newsboys to Perform at Pentagon 9/11 Service
Popular Christian band newsboys will perform at the Pentagon's annual 9-11 Memorial Service to be held at the Pentagon Auditorium on Sept. 11.
The multi-faith service will honor those who gave their lives at the Pentagon and elsewhere on Sept. 11, 2001. Attending the event will be members of the armed forces as well as government employees and their families.
"The events of 9/11 touched us all," said Peter Furler, lead vocalist of newsboys, "and the willing sacrifices of the men and women of our armed forces to defend is truly awe-inspiring.
"We are honored and humbled to have been asked to be a part of the memorial service at the Pentagon this year, and we hope our music and message will be an inspiration to all those who attend."
Also performing at the event will be Jason Burton, solo artist and former member of the group Belief, which traveled all over the country playing their music and ministering in coffeehouses, colleges, and churches. The event's guest speaker is retired Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell, a survivor of the 9/11 attacks and author of the book "Refined by Fire."
Newsboys, which will follow the one-hour event immediately with a two-hour concert for all employees, recently released their 14th record, GO, to critical acclaim and commercial success. Produced by Peter Furler and Tedd T., the project debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
"Newsboys' music is incredible and reaches across the lines to so many different people," commented Maj. Alan Pomaville, a chaplain of the Pentagon Chaplain's Office. "I believe that many people will be blessed as a result of hearing their music."
The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
