Nexus 5 Now Available in Red, Price Set for $350

A red version of the Nexus 5 is now available in the Google Play store.

This new model is now available to customers off contract for $350 for the 16GB model and $400 for the 32GB. It features the same specifications as the current black and white versions.

The red Nexus 5 first surfaced after a Vietnamese retailer published an image that shows this new version of the Google smartphone. It is said to be a sample unit that was obtained by the Vietnamese online store MaiNguyen.com. It is rumored to hit the market in late February or March 2014. A yellow model is also rumored to be introduced.

The red model also appeared in a leaked Sprint memo that suggested that it would launch in the Google Play store starting Feb. 4.

The yellow model has not yet been announced by any carrier, but could end up surfacing in the Google Play store sometime soon.

Google launched the Nexus 5 at the end of last year. Specifications on the device include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor running at up to 2.3GHz, a 4.96-inch LCD 1080p display, 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 16 or 32GB internal memory, a 2300 mAh battery and an 8-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization. It is also one of the first devices to run Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

The device is the successor to the wildly popular Nexus 4 and could be the last smartphone of its kind as Google plans to shift directions this year by focusing on its Google Play models of other companies' flagships and discontinuing its own line of handsets.

However, nothing has been finalized at this time and Google could change its mind and release more Nexus tablets or smartphones in 2014.
