Nexus 5 Release Date Set for October, Device to Run Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

The LG Nexus 5 will be released sometime in Oct. and will feature Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie.

The device is being developed based on the hardware platform of the LG G2, according to the Korean tech site Daum. It will launch this fall and will be one of the first devices to introduce the next-generation Android platform.

Daum also weighed in on the specifications for the G2 stating that it will come with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera with OIS, a 2700 mAh battery, a 5.2-inch display, and LTE-A support. The G2 is expected to launch with Android 4.2.2, JellyBean out of the box. This is a bit questionable seeing that Android 4.3 should be released sometime in the very near future.

Android Authority commented on the credibility of this report regarding the Nexus 5.

"How credible it this report? To be clear, this might be a piece of speculation presented as fact or simply an inaccurate rumor. With that said, the report is quite plausible, given the previous rumors we've heard, the fact that the Nexus 4 was developed the same way, and the fact that we haven't heard any reports so far about a Nexus device from another manufacturer," wrote the site.

The Nexus 4 and Optimus G shared similar specifications so LG could be using the same strategy for this go round.

In May, an LG executive claimed that the company was not interested in manufacturing another Nexus device. However, LG quickly retracted that statement saying that they'd be happy to work with Google again.

The successor to the Nexus 4 should arrive sometime before the end of this year.
