Nexus 5 Rumors: Newly Leaked Photos Show Android 4.4 Kit Kat Running on Device
New images showing Android 4.4 Kit Kat running on the Nexus 5 surfaced on the internet today, confirming some previous rumors.
The pictures were posted by the Italian blog TuttoAndroid. The site posted up shots of the Kit Kat's Settings app, which shows a new "Tap & Pay" feature alongside new location mode settings that include options for high accuracy, battery saving, and device sensor modes.
High accuracy mode combines GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks. The other two settings use just Wi-Fi or GPS. All these location modes are new to the system and the payments NFC feature has been seen in previous leaks under a different name.
The other images featured in the leak line up with several pictures that have surfaced in the past as they include the same transparent status bar on the lockscreen and also show a camera icon on it that can be dragged to launch the camera app. Users can still swipe left to launch the camera like in previous versions of Android. The pictures also show redesigned icons.
The Nexus 5 rumors regarding the smartphone featuring a MEMS camera proved not to be true.
DigitalOptics, the company who created the technology, claim that last week's reports stating that this camera would be on the Google device were not accurate and also issued a press release further clarifying this point.
"There has been speculation on who would be the first to bring the significant benefits of mems/cam to the mobile imaging market," wrote the company. "Last week, several technology news blogs reported that mems/cam was first being brought to market in another smartphone platform. Those reports were inaccurate."
The first OEM to release a MEMS camera equipped device will be OPPO, a leading Chinese smartphone OEM.
