Nexus 5 Specs: Camera to Feature Optical Image Stabilization

A new report released this week revealed more about the specs for the upcoming Nexus 5 handset.

Android World found references to the device's specs in a leaked Android 4.4 log file. The site discovered that it will feature optical image stabilization for the camera and USB OTG.

References for image stabilization were found in code for the front-facing and rear camera. However, it isn't clear if this code refers to actual optical image stabilization or software features that would improve filming and photography on the device.

The USB OTG features include the ability to move pictures from the gallery to an external storage device. There is also support for USB audio accessories.

This file also revealed more information on Android 4.4, KitKat.

The new software update will bring new versions of apps to smartphones and tablets as the site found that the builds in the file all had higher numbers than the apps found on current Android systems.

These advanced apps include Google Sound Search, Email, Clock, Currents, Cloud Print, Google Authenticator, Play Books, Gallery, Hangouts, QuickOffice, Play Store, and Gmail.

Android Authority claims that most of them will have to be downloaded independently from the Google Play store which means that older handsets that won't get Android 4.4 soon will be able to download the update versions of these core Android apps.

The reason the site believes this is due to the change in name for the actual apps that are normally referred to as com.android.APPNAME and are now called com.google.android.APPNAME in the file leak.

References to themes have also been discovered by Android World in the new file. However, it is unclear what that means for the device and software at this time.

All of this information should be taken with a grain of salt as these versions of the software and handset have not been officially confirmed to be real at this time.
