Google recently launched two devices that the company had a major hand in with the LG made Nexus 5 and the Motorola Moto X.
The Nexus brand consists of a collaborative effort between Google and a smartphone manufacturer and the new model is no different as the internet giant partnered up with LG to release this impressive handset. Google also owns Motorola which many believe gives the handset maker an advantage over other OEMs when it comes to Android software. So how do these two smartphones stack up against one another? The Moto X features a 4.7-inch AMOLED display with 1280x720 pixels at 312 ppi. The Nexus 5 comes with a 4.95-inch display with 1920x1080 pixels at 445 ppi. The Nexus 5 clearly has the advantage here as the Moto X does not even come with Full HD. This really doesn't matter to the average smartphone user, but those looking for the best of the best will easily flock to the Nexus if they want a top notch screen.
Processor
The Moto X features a dual-core Qualcomm Pro Snapdragon MSM8960 Processor while the Nexus 5 comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip. The Nexus 5 is super fast and having 2GB of RAM doesn't hurt either. The Moto X also has 2GB RAM, but the processor is less powerful. The Nexus 5 is arguably the fastest high-end handset currently available on the market and the software integration is certain to make it run smoother. It's tough for any handset to compete with the Nexus in this department.
Camera
The Moto X features a 10-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash along with a 2-megapixel front shooter. The Nexus 5 packs an 8-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization and a 1.3-megapixel front shooter. The Nexus 5 camera got off to a rocky start with software issues plaguing the device but some of those problems have been corrected through new updates. Still, the Moto X might take this one due to more megapixels and a better reputation thus far.
Design
Motorola introduced full customization to the smartphone market with the Moto X as buyers could use the online interactive Moto Maker to adjust the handset's look to their likings. The company recently released the wood customization which makes the phone look like it is made from the actual tree based material. The Nexus 5 features a plain black exterior that is solid. However, due to greater innovation, the Moto X takes this area hands down.
Conclusion
The Nexus 5 and Moto X are both great devices, however, those looking for state of the art specs for a great price will definitely want to lean towards the Nexus 5. Customers looking for a solid handset with full customization will be better suited with the Moto X. The Moto X is also pretty affordable, but no one can beat the off-contract $349 price of the Nexus 5.
