Nexus 7 Vs. Galaxy TabPRO 8.4: Spec by Spec Comparison
Samsung introduced the new Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 at this year's Consumer Electronics Show and the new smaller high-end tablet is comparable to the Nexus 7 in many ways.
The Korean company sort of takes aim at the Nexus 7 and other devices in the mid-end market by creating an 8.4-inch slate with specs that would normally be found on larger models. So can Google's device stand up to Samsung's new baby? Here is a brief spec comparison of the two devices.

The Nexus 7 2013 model features a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset while the TabPRO comes with the latest 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Both feature 2GB of RAM making each of these tablets extremely quick. Though the speed difference will not be completely noticeable to the average user, the new TabPRO has the advantage here thanks to the addition of the Snapdragon 800.
Display
The new TabPRO features an impressive 8.4-inch LCD display with 2560x1600 resolution at 359 ppi. The Nexus 7 comes with a 7-inch LCD display with 1920x1200 resolution at 323 ppi. The Nexus 7 has a smaller screen which makes is ok that Samsung's device has more pixels. The ppi is the significant number to look at here and judging from the figures, both displays are extremely impressive but do not function as a significant advantage for either company.
Software
The TabPRO 8.4 will launch running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box while the Nexus 7 was the first device to introduce Android 4.3, JellyBean. The Nexus 7 has updated to the newer software in various markets but still comes with Android 4.3 out of the box giving the TabPRO a slight advantage in this department. Once the update is performed, that advantage disappears as newer software builds will probably come to the Nexus 7 before Samsung's device.
Design
The TabPRO basically looks like a giant version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. It features the same metal edges with the traditional home button and Samsung logo and sensors at the top. It is made from the plastic material the company normally uses. The Nexus 7 resembles its predecessor as it features a similar black plastic body. Neither company really wows anyone here with the exterior look of each slate. Devices such as the iPad Air blow both of these out of the water when it comes to aesthetics.
Conclusion
Pricing information on the TabPRO will help us to form a better conclusion on which tablet is a better buy overall. Even though the new Samsung device features killer specs found mostly in larger tabs, a high-price tag could drag down its overall value as the Nexus 7 is really affordable starting at $269 for the Wi-Fi 16GB model. In terms of specs, Samsung certainly outdoes Google and Asus but how much will the Korean electronics giant make you pay for this machine? The Nexus 7 is still a great value and stacks up well against the latest competition.
