NFL rumors 2016: Sterling Moore latest free agent to join Buffalo Bills

Free agent cornerback Sterling Moore elects to join the Buffalo Bills for this season, effectively giving the team another option at the defensive backfield. The five-year veteran played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, appearing in all sixteen games and starting in nine of them.

Moore is an interesting addition to the Bills lineup, which made a lot of improvements this offseason in the hope of bolstering their chances of reaching farther this season. In the 16 games for the Bucs last season, he made one interception and was responsible for forcing three fumbles, The Associated Press reports. Before his stint in Tampa Bay, he previously played for the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots, the team that signed him as an unrestricted free agent back in 2011.

In a career spanning 56 games so far, he managed to produce four interceptions to his name, as well as five forced fumbles.

In Buffalo, he will be playing backup to two mainstays in Stephon Gilmore and Ronald Darby, both of which are expected to start at cornerback. But because Ron Brooks elected to test free agency and the team parting ways with veteran Leodis McKelvin, it sure looks like Moore will be in for an immediate spot in the rotation.

The 26-year old isn't a top 10 cornerback in the league, but he is an ideal backup who can contribute night in and night out. Both he and another acquisition, Corey White, come with enough experience on the field for the Bills to be confident on putting them out there. With this in mind, there's a good chance they both will serve as backups on the right and left cornerback positions behind Darby and Gilmore. In fact, they might even be good enough to compete for the starting spot in the middle of the season.
