NFL Star Brent Jones to Speak with Silicon Valley Businessmen
Former National Football League star, Brent Jones, will speak before Silicon Valley's top business leaders at a conference promoting Christian principles in the marketplace.
The three-time Super Bowl champion is scheduled to make an appearance on April 23 at the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood City, Calif.
He is best known for playing tight end for the San Francisco 49ers. In his twelve year career, he has been a four-time All-Pro NFL performer and received the prestigious Bart Starr Award in 1998. Jones was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame for both Division I and II.
His brilliant career came to an abrupt end in January 1998 when he tore his calf muscle during a game.
"It took a lot of hard work and dedication to become a successful NFL pro, but…I discovered there was more to life than sports," Jones said, according to hitrunscore.com.
"You see, I had a significant void on the inside that athletics and friends could not fill. Later I realized that the key to fulfillment and contentment in life was a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."
Since his injury, Jones has traded his jersey for a suit and tie.
Currently, he works as an investor in Silicon Valley's premier venture capital funds, as well as an angel investor in several start-up companies including Nvidia, VA Linux, Verisity and Data Domain. He also has a seat on the board of directors for Zazzle, a Kleiner Perkins-back portfolio company. In addition, Jones is an advisory board member with US Venture Partners.
In 2000, he co-founded Northgate and became the firm's managing director. The company is now worth $3 billion dollars in assets.
Jones has not left the world of sports, however, and is currently serving as board member for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League.
His involvement with the collegiate community includes being a member of the board at the Stanford Hospital Stroke Center.
Jones' upcoming event is hosted by the Chinese Entrepreneur Association, which aims to guide businessmen to develop entrepreneurship with integrity and high ethical standards according to Biblical principles. The event is sponsored by Tiger Balm.
