'Ni No Kuni 2' News, Release Date: Bandai Namco Confirms Game Not in Development for Xbox One

The sequel to the first "Ni No Kuni" might no longer head to Xbox One. Bandai Namco confirmed earlier this week that contrary to speculations, "Ni No Kuni 2" is not in development for the gaming console.

For the last weeks, there have been rumors that "Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom" might make its way to the console as a digital release soon. Fans speculated that although the game was originally slated for release on PS4 and PC, it could also head to Xbox One. Rumors about the Xbox One release of "Ni No Kuni" grew rife when IGN Spain stated that the release would be a digital-only and that the sequel might come soon after the original launch.

Last week, a new retailer listing for the Xbox One version of "Ni No Kuni 2" also surfaced online, seemingly confirming assumptions that the game was in development for Xbox One. Shortly after posting, however, the listing was taken down and labeled an error.

Earlier this week, Bandai Namco has decided to confront the rumors head-on. Unfortunately, the game publisher's statement will likely not sit well with Xbox One owners. According to the company, the sequel to the first "Ni No Kuni" is only being developed for PS4 and PC but not for Xbox One. Debunking the rumors that have been going around for months, Bandai Namco said that they don't have plans of releasing "NI No Kuni 2" to the console.

The game developer's recent confirmation should not come as a surprise for "Ni No Kuni" fans, primarily because the first game did not make it to the Xbox 360 either. Previously, the company also said that the sequel would not come to the Xbox One.

Currently, "Ni No Kuni 2" is being developed by Level-5. It is set for release on Jan. 19, 2018 on PS4 and PC.
