Nick Cannon Talks Mariah Carey Being Replaced on 'American Idol'
Mariah Carey was recently rumored in reports that claimed she was being replaced as an "American Idol" judge and her husband Nick Cannon is letting it be known how that will impact his family.
The Hollywood Reporter allegedly garnered a source confirming rumors that "American Idol" producers were looking to replace Carey,43, with Jennifer Lopez, the 43-year-old singer, dancer and actress who served as a judge on the nationally televised singing competition in the past.
However, Cannon, the 32-year-old media personality and Nickelodeon executive, said his wife is not worried about her future with the show.
"Whatever happens with that show, I think she's had a great time. But she's a global superstar. I don't think she's ever in need of a job," Cannon told Access Hollywood recently. "She made a decision to do that show because she really wanted to connect with the contestants. I don't think she's thinking about the future of it."
Fantasia Barrino, the 28-year-old singer who won the third season of "American Idol" in 2004, expressed her opinion about the rumors concerning the current and former judge.
"I mean Mariah Carey she is music ... it's always good to have somebody that can hold weight like she does on 'American Idol.' I was a little nervous singing in front of her," Barrino revealed to VH1. "I would say bring J.Lo on, but don't take Mariah off."
Despite the rumors swirling about Carey being replaced by Lopez, a Fox spokesperson said the claims were unfounded.
"This is just another ridiculous 'Idol' judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale," a Fox spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter recently.
Nigel Lythgoe, a producer for Fox's "American Idol," echoed the network spokesperson's sentiments.
"I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season," Lythgoe said according to MTV reports.
