The recent estimate of Celebrity Net Worth pegged Young's fortune at $8 million. Majority of his net worth came from the NBA contract he signed with the Lakers in 2013.

According to Spotrac, Young inked a four-year guaranteed deal with the Lakers worth $21,326,174. The 31-year-old NBA star received a base salary of $5,443,918 last season. Now on his fourth year with the Lakers, the guard-forward will be paid $5,668,667 in the upcoming season.

Losing Money from Controversies

Young is a two-time All-Pac-10 first teamer who played for the University of Southern California from 2004 to 2007. He decided to forgo his senior year in the university to play professionally for the league. He was later picked 16th overall in the 2007 NBA draft of the Washington Wizard.

The promising NBA star's market value started to depreciate after he got involved in a major controversy in the league. In 2010, he was fined $10,000 by the Wizards for participating in the antics of his teammate Gilbert Arenas who brought guns in the locker room.

Young struggled to establish a reputation after the controversy. In 2012, he was traded to Los Angeles Clippers. He signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in the same year until he went to the Lakers in 2013.

Latest Endorsement Deal

Adidas Originals recently released Young's new basketball shoes, under the sportswear company's Crazy Explosive Primeknit line. According to The Washington Post, the look of the new sneakers was well-received online.

Amid praises, some questioned why adidas Originals opted to release a sneaker of a player who just came from a worst season in the NBA. Young registered the lowest record of his 9-year NBA career last season, where he averaged 7.3 points, 0.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Young's record contradicts to the purpose why adidas Originals put up its Crazy Explosive line. The company stated early this year that the line of basketball shoes is intended for players who showcase explosive moves while playing above the rim.
