Nicki Minaj Clarifies Statement Saying That She Made Female Rappers 'Mainstream'

Rapper Nicki Minaj faces another controversy after claiming that she is the reason why the female rap music becomes mainstream.

On her Instagram account, the "Super Bass" rapper clarified her statement taken from a recent XXL interview as part of the magazine's 20th-anniversary issue where she claimed that what she said was just taken out of context.

Based on the video, Minaj dropped the names of some of the most popular female rappers in history, including Lauryn Hill, Eve, Missy Elliot, Lil Kim, Trina, Foxy Brown, and Queen Latifah. She claimed that these female musicians already had several platinum albums under their names even before she joined the entertainment industry.

Minaj also reportedly mentioned that what she actually said was she should be credited for reintroducing female rap music in the pop culture. "When I came out, there had been a drought of a few years where NO female rap album had gone platinum, females weren't getting budgets, the industry did NOT believe in the female rapper anymore. They had stopped generating MONEY for labels," she wrote in her post. "So I "REINTRODUCED" the "successful" female rapper back to POP CULTURE. Showed big business we were major players in the game just like the boys were."

The rapper also mentioned that if anyone can point out the part where she said that she was the one who brings the female rappers in mainstream entertainment, she is willing to give them $100,000.

After posting her clarification, some of her fans posted a comment on her post to praise Minaj's contribution to the rap music industry. One of the fans claimed she can be considered as the number one female rapper today, while others praised her for her fun music. Another one mentioned that she is currently dominating the rap industry that male artists had been ruling for the almost a decade.
