The rapper has made headlines for her frequent outbursts during her stint on the show where she served as a judge for the first time this season. Earlier this month, Minaj threatened to quit her duties as a judge on the when gospel-singing contestant Curtis Finch Jr. did not receive enough votes from the public to make it to the next round of the singing competition.

Last year, Minaj and fellow "American Idol" judge Mariah Carey made headlines when a video of their on-air spat at the judges' table went viral. Minaj reportedly chastised Carey for what she deemed "disrespectful" behavior, according to TMZ reports.

"You think I'm playing ... Think it's a joke?? Say one more disrespectful thing to me – say one more disrespectful thing to me," Minaj told Carey in an enraged tone. "Don't tell me I'm inadequate. Maybe you're inadequate, you're insecure running down your resume every five minutes. Every time you take a shot at me, Imma take it back and if you've got a (expletive) problem, handle it."

The rapper recently spoke about the nationally televised singing competition defying her expectations.

"I definitely did not have an idea of what it would be because I had never done anything close to 'American Idol,'" she said in an MTV report. "I think one of the things I was shocked about was how interested the world is in 'American Idol' and how people, writers, they write about 'Idol' all the time, and I guess I didn't expect that."

While Minaj refused to give a definitive answer about her return to the show, the rapper said she was grateful to be given the opportunity to appear on "American Idol."

"I always say this and I mean it from the bottom of my heart, just that people behind the scenes at 'Idol' have been a dream to work with," Minaj told MTV. "I'm just super grateful to have been given the opportunity."
