Nigella Lawson 'Mortifying' Revelations Exposed During Trial

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson made her second-season debut on "The Taste" last night on ABC. It's been a rough few months for the chef, who recently had to endure what she calls a "mortifying" trial and divorce.

Lawson and former husband Charles Saatchi sued two employees, Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo for illegally charging over $1 million on Saatchi's corporate credit card. During the trial, however, they accused Lawson of having a cocaine habit and testified that the money was spent to buy her drugs. Lawson admitting using cocaine in the past but added that she had not used in several years.

"I have to be honest, to have not only your private life but distortions of your private life put on display is mortifying," Lawson said earlier on "Good Morning America." "But there are people going through an awful lot worse and to dwell on any of it would be self-pity and I don't like to do that."

Lawson was also in the spotlight after photos of Saatchi choking her at a public restaurant surfaced, leading to their divorce. She never spoke out about the incident or their relationship but instead chose to move on with her life.

"My only desire was to protect my children as much as possible, which I couldn't do, but that's what I wanted to do," Lawson said.

How has she coped with the intensity of the trial and divorce? In a rather surprising, yet more traditional fashion.

"Actually, since then, I've eaten a lot of chocolate," Lawson admitted. "And I had a very good Christmas and I'm into the New Year."

Lawson is a huge celebrity in the United Kingdom and only recently began becoming a familiar name in the United States. ABC's "The Taste" debuted last year as a new type of cooking competition, and Lawson was thrust into the limelight, winning over critics and gaining a new array of fans.

"The Taste" kicked off its second season last night and airs Thursday nights on ABC.
