Nike CEO on Lance Armstrong: I'll 'Never Say Never' to Armstrong, Says Phil Knight (VIDEO)
Nike CEO Phil Knight gave an ambiguous response earlier this week when asked if the company would work with Lance Armstrong again after the bicyclist admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs.
During a highly anticipated interview with Oprah, Lance Armstrong will allegedly admit for the first time that he had used performance-enhancing drugs between 1995 and 2005. Armstrong had previously held a record number of wins for the esteemed Tour de France. His awards were revoked in 2012 after allegations that Armstrong had been doping became more pronounced.
One response to Armstrong's admission was to question how he could on making an income, presuming that all of his endorsement would end.
Nike CEO Phil Knight is not so sure, however, that the company would be willing to end all ties with the once world-renowned athlete. When asked if Nike would discontinue working with Armstrong, Knight responded, "never say never" to a TMZ camera.
Nike terminated their contract with Lance last October following the rumors.
Armstrong's taped confession will air Thursday on OWN. Oprah said during an interview on CBS that she was taken back by some of Armstrong's answers.
"We were mesmerized and riveted by some of his answers. I feel that he answered the questions in a way that he was ready," she said Tuesday morning on Good Morning America. "He certainly had prepared himself for this moment. … He brought it. He really did."
The talk show host added that emotional was not enough to describe the intensity of certain moments during the interview.
"I would say there were a couple of times where he was emotional," she said. "But that doesn't describe the intensity at times."
"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him," the company previously said in a statement.
