Nina Dobrev News: Former 'The Vampire Diaries' Actress Set to Join Cast of 'Flatliners' Reboot
Actress Nina Dobrev of "The Vampire Diaries" fame is set to join the reboot of the '90s movie "Flatliners." According to an exclusive report of Deadline, the actress is currently in the negotiating table with Sony for the reimagining of "Flatliners," which will also include Ellen Page and Diego Luna in the cast. Dobrev will breathe life to the character of Marlo, a cream-of-the-crop student in her class.
The "Flatliners" reboot will be helmed by Oplev, who also directed the original version of the movie "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," based on the screenplay penned by Ben Ripley. The movie will be produced by Michael Douglas and Laurence Mark.
Those who have seen the original "Flatliners," the movie is most remembered for the line "Today is a good day to die." It featured the acting chops of Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon as they experiment on near-death studies to travel to the afterlife and discover hidden meanings and truths.
The experiment involves the characters taking turns in stopping their hearts until the monitor indicates that they have flat lines. After which, they are revived by another team with the use of their medical equipment and knowledge.
"… In their search for knowledge, however, the five discover the profound consequences of daring to tamper with immortality. Returning from their peek at the afterlife, the students bring back manifestations of their past sins, something they had not bargained for. Forced to deal with their previous transgressions here in the present, the participants learn about life as well as death," goes the description of the original "Flatliners" movie.
Meanwhile, if things go well as planned, "Flatliners" will be Dobrev's third big screen appearance. While the actress is no stranger to the small screen, as she was part of "The Vampire Diaries" for six seasons, she has appeared in the movies just once, via "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Dobrev is also part of the upcoming Vin Diesel starrer, "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage."
