Nintendo 3DS News: Nintendo Reveals Details on Console's Upcoming RPG Titles
Nintendo has lined up several role-playing game titles for its 3DS console this year. The company has revealed more details on these upcoming RPGs recently.
"Fans of role-playing games have just received a boost to their excitement stat," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, in a press release. "Nintendo platforms have always been home to high-quality RPGs, and with even more games launching in 2016, this trend is set to continue in a big way."
Nintendo 3DS XL "Fire Emblem Fates" Edition
Nintendo has announced that a Nintendo 3DS XL "Fire Emblem Fates" Edition will be available on Feb. 19 for $199.99. The console will feature game-inspired art at the front. Unfortunately, it will not include the game.
The game will launch alongside the special edition console. Gamers can choose between "Fire Emblem: Birthright" and "Fire Emblem: Conquest." In the first version, players will battle a corrupted king, while in the second version, players need to change a misguided kingdom from within.
Roughly a month after the game's launch, Nintendo will release a DLC called "Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation." The DLC will be available on March 10 for $19.99.
Those who want to get all three in one go can look for the collector's edition, which also includes an artbook, and a Nintendo 3DS XL pouch. The special edition will sell for $79.99.
Nintendo has also promised to deliver new maps on a regular basis. The first one will be available on Feb. 19. These maps can be bought on their own or in bulk through Map Pack 1, which costs $17.99.
"Bravely Second: End Layer" and a Collector's Edition
The JRPG from developers Silicon Studio and Square Enix, "Bravely Second: End Layer," is coming on April 15. A Collector's Edition will also be available for $69.99. It will contain the game, original soundtrack consisting of 10 songs, and a 250-page deluxe art book.
Before the game's launch, Nintendo will showcase a demo version of "Bravely Second: End Layer – The Ballad of the Three Cavaliers." The demo will be available through the Nintendo eShop and will feature a new story, new jobs, and new areas to explore. Fans should look out for StreetPass tags and bonuses that will carry over to the main game.
Other RPG titles
Although Nintendo highlighted "Fire Emblem Fates" and "Bravely Second: End Layer," the company has lined up more games that are set to release to the 3DS this year. Five of these already have a release date, while two only have a release window.
First up is "Final Fantasy Explorers" from Square Enix, which will launch later this month, on Jan. 26. This will be followed by "Project X Zone 2" from Bandai Namco that will release a couple of days after Valentine's Day, on Feb. 16. Later on, three Pokemon titles will be available as part of Pokemon's 20th anniversary celebration, "Pokemon Red," "Pokemon Blue," and "Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition," all of which will hit shelves on Pokemon Day, Feb. 27.
Meanwhile, "Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past" and "Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King" have no specific release date yet, but Nintendo has pegged their launch in summer 2016 and "later this year," respectively.
