Nintendo Mii Release Date, Latest News: Features of Mii App for Mobile Devices
Japanese gaming colossus, Nintendo, is expected to make an entry in the mobile marketplace next month with Nintendo Mii, an app utilizing Mii characters.
While Japanese multinational gaming company Nintendo remains set in its refusal to develop mobile device games, it will still be joining the mobile arena with a new application to be released on March 31 this year. The Nintendo Mii signals the company's solid commitment to make mobile technology a part of their lineup.
The Nintendo Mii allows players to use their favorite Mii characters as icons on their mobile devices and social media accounts, and while the company has yet to announce which social networks and smartphpones or tablets will support the Mii app, Nintendo president and CEO, Satoru Iwata told The Nikkei that development is currently underway.
Several of the company's game consoles already incorporate Mii digital avatars. These are caricatures that users can create on the app for participation in Wii Sports and other Wii games.
Nintendo has enabled users to create Miis via the Mii channel and store them on a specially-designed Wii console. Users can also interact with each other by allowing their Miis to mingle with other users' Miis.
While Nintendo has released no further details of what else the Mii app can do, Iwata reiterated that the company was working on "achieving greater ties with our consumers on smart devices and expanding our platform business" to attract consumer attention.
While the Nintendo Mii may not appear to be the most comprehensive app in the market, it still signals Nintendo's movement within the mobile space. In 2012 it released its Pokedex app for iOS platforms, and it has recently formed a partnership with Gungho Online Entertainment, a Japanese mobile developer, for the creation of a 3D amalgamation of Super Mario and Gungho's hit game, Puzzles & Dragons.
