Nintendo NX News: Koei Tecmo CEO Hints NX Will Be a Home Console
Despite confirming development on its new gaming platform, the Nintendo NX is still largely mysterious. But a recent interview with a top executive in the gaming industry seems to suggest that Nintendo's upcoming gaming system could be a home console.
In a post dated Dec. 29, 4Gamer published an interview with Koei Tecmo President and Chief Executive Officer Yoichi Erikawa. The interview is in Japanese but Siliconera has snippets of its translation in English.
As Nintendo has not revealed any substantial detail or information regarding what its new gaming platform will actually be, this has left its fans and followers wondering whether the new gaming device could be a console, a handheld, or a hybrid of both. Erikawa's response to one interview question seems to put the Nintendo NX in the same category as Sony's PlayStation 4. In fact, the question was about the fate of home consoles. Based on this, Siliconera and others have said that the Nintendo NX is apparently a home console device.
Asked if home consoles have been doing well or not, Erikawa responds:
"Actually, I think that it'll start doing much better. The PlayStation 4 has recently surpassed 2 million units in nationwide sales, and Nintendo announced a new 'machine' called the NX. From this point forward, I believe that each company will make clear commitments for these machines."
Erikawa's answer does not rule out the possibility of the device being a hybrid, that is both a home console and a handheld, from being true, however. But it does boost those speculations saying it will be a home console.
Nintendo has not made any comments addressing these Nintendo NX rumors at this time. Gamers and the gaming industry continue to wait for Nintendo's announcement. The game company is expected to reveal more about the Nintendo NX next year.
