Nintendo NX Release Rumors: May Feature Xbox One-Like 'Raw Power' And Be Unveiled In January 2016

Many months have passed since Nintendo confirmed the development of its upcoming console, the Nintendo NX, and stated that more details about it should start trickling in by 2016. What those details could possibly be are the subject of rumors, one of which seems to be supported by a vague hint from a Nintendo employee.

A report from Nintendo Enthusiast, citing an unnamed source who has been right about some things, has stated that the Nintendo NX could be making an appearance during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month. The console's appearance, however, will not be to the public but rather to a limited and select group of people only. The publication's source said that Nintendo had supposedly sent invites to third-party companies to show them, behind closed doors, what the Nintendo NX is capable of.

If true, this will not be the first time Nintendo has done something like this. Back in 2012, the Japanese company showed its Wii U at the CES, too.

This rumor of a January showcase of the Nintendo NX seems to corroborate what Nintendo Director and President Satoru Iwata said previously. Back in March, Iwata confirmed that the company is working on the new console and hopes to share more information by 2016.

The source also provided information regarding the Nintendo NX's power. The source said that in terms of raw power, the console would be "similar to the Xbox One." This rumor seems to be in line with what a Nintendo employee said in a recent interview.

Talking with Bloomberg, video game designer Takashi Tezuka hinted at the direction of the Nintendo NX in terms of performance. Although he remained tight-lipped about the Wii U's successor, he did make a general statement about Nintendo's future products.

"We feel quite strongly about creating things that are in sync with the times," Tezuka told the publication.

Some have construed this to mean that the Nintendo NX will have an at-par power offering as Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. But some remain unconvinced, owing to Nintendo's history of releasing an underpowered Wii U that never really took off.

The topic of the console's price was also given some light. The source said Nintendo intends to make the new console more enticing by selling it at a "lower, competitive price point."

All these details will either be confirmed or debunked in the coming days and weeks as Nintendo is expected to reveal more solid information about the Nintendo NX.
