Nintendo NX vs PlayStation 4 Pro: How will the Rumored Hybrid Device Stack Up Against the 4K Console? Specs and Features Compared
The rumor mill has been churning with a lot of updates for the upcoming gaming console Nintendo NX. However, with tough competition in the market, how will it fare against the recently released PlayStation 4 Pro?
Hybrid Device
There have been consistent reports saying that Nintendo is planning on making their next gaming device a hybrid model. This means that it could be convertible from a proper gaming console to a portable one. One being handheld, while the other being plugged into the television set. With the company's experience through the 3DS, Wii, Wii U, and other consoles before them, the Nintendo NX would surely trump the PlayStation Pro in the accessibility department.
Processing Power
The PlayStation Pro 4 is indeed one of the most powerful consoles out in the market right now. The octa-core AMD chip-set inside the console coupled with the powerful graphics processor gives the console more than enough juice to drive through games smoothly.
However, the Nintendo NX is rumored to sport the Tegra X2 chip from Nvidia. As of yet, there are still no official confirmation as to just how powerful this chip-set actually is, but is said to be as powerful as the one in the PlayStation 4. It will then reportedly support a Pascal architecture similar to the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 in high-end PCs.
Device Dimensions
This area gets a bit tricky for the Nintendo NX due to its hybrid nature. However, a leak came in saying that when in portable mode and it is folded, it would be slightly thicker than the Nintendo 3DS XL. It will have a width of 281mm, a height of 92mm, and a thickness of 25mm. There is no word as of yet regarding the dimensions of the Nintendo NX when it is used as a console.
The PlayStation 4 Pro, however, is unexpectedly larger. The features are ideal for gaming consoles. It has a dimension set of 295mm × 55mm × 327mm for the width, height, and length, respectively.
Market Share
There is no doubt that Sony and Microsoft, through the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, are the leading brands in the gaming console world right now. However, Nintendo has been at the game for so long. Historically, even though Nintendo consoles are not as powerful as the ones offered by the competitors, it could garner sales equaling theirs. Given this, the Nintendo NX should be able to port games that could be played both handheld and in console to keep up with the PlayStation 4 Pro.
