Nintendo Switch Games News: Bethesda Confirms Switch Versions for 'DOOM' and 'Wolfenstein 2'

Nintendo Switch gamers will soon be getting versions of "DOOM" and "Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus" on the hybrid portable console.

On Wednesday at Nintendo Direct, the Japanese video game company previewed all the confirmed upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch, and one of the biggest surprises was the addition of Bethesda's critically acclaimed title "DOOM" and the yet-to-be released game "Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus."

According to the lengthy Nintendo Direct trailer, "DOOM" is going to be the first between the two games to arrive to the Nintendo Switch. It will launch in winter of 2017. However, in the case of "Wolfenstein 2," the game will not be made available on the portable console until 2018, which is months away from its initial release on the PC and the other consoles on Oct. 27.

Meanwhile, the trailer also confirmed that the complete single-player campaign and multiplayer mode of "DOOM" will be ported to Nintendo Switch. However, note that a Bethesda representative informed Polygon that the "multiplayer will be available to players as a download." Unfortunately, the Snap Map feature will not be supported by the Nintendo Switch port of the game.

"DOOM's" Snap Map is a feature that allows players to make their own maps and upload it so others can use it too.

"DOOM" is a popular first-person shooter game developed by id Software and was first released in 1993. It was then re-launched and enhanced to match the capacity of the new generation consoles in 2016.

Meanwhile, "Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus" will still follow the story of main protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz who must juggle his time between fully recovering from severe injuries attained from the first game's ending scene and starting a revolution anew to defeat the Nazis who have taken over America.

Bethesda has yet to confirm whether there will be restrictions in the Nintendo Switch port of "Wolfenstein 2" compared to the game's versions for other consoles.
