Nintendo Switch News: Console Hides NES 'Golf' Game

Data miners recently claimed they have discovered that Nintendo Switch consoles were secretly packed with the 1984 video game called "Golf."

The information was first shared through SwitchBrew.org, a site for anything related to the Switch console but is independent from Nintendo. On the site, data miners put up a page titled "Flog" since they claimed the NES game "Golf" was tucked within the lines of code in the portable console by using a word which was actually its name spelled backwards.

The data miners identified "Flog" as a NES emulator, also claiming that it had been in the console since version 1.0.0. SwitchBrew added that "Flog" could not be loaded through the Filesystem services but it "is embedded in the main binary."

Unlike other hidden codes, it might be difficult for an average player to access "Flog." "It's unknown what exactly triggers launching this title officially. This can be run with unofficial methods," data miner yellows8 said.

Meanwhile, there were also several images included that were said to be screenshots from the actual hidden "Golf" game. There were four screenshots shared including the title menu where game mode options such as single player, two-player Stroke, and two-player Match games modes were presented. The other three images showed the game in the said gameplay modes.

At the corners of the images, people could see icons that depicted how the hidden game could be controlled using the Joy-Cons.

However, the lack of other proof for the existence of the supposed secret game warrants doubt among reports about its legitimacy.

Meanwhile, in an update, Ars Technica reported that they were able to reach out to yellows8 who claimed to have actually played "Golf" on the Switch and reiterated that the steps to access and open "Flog" warrants "unofficial" methods.

Yellows8 also reportedly confirmed that "Golf" for the Nintendo Switch supports Joy-Con and motion controls as shown in the screenshots.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has not said much about the "Flog" copy on Switch but told Polygon that they were "looking into it."
