Nintendo Switch News: Video-on-Demand Support Planned, Playable Classic Games Detailed
It looks like video-on-demand support is still on the table for the Nintendo Switch.
In an interview with Kotaku, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that this much-awaited feature, which will allow players to use streaming services like Netflix on the console, is going to come to the Nintendo Switch "in due time."
Fils-Aime said that it will ultimately be up to the streaming companies:
You'd have to ask the folks at Netflix. I have [Netflix CEO] Reed [Hasting]'s number.
He only chuckled when asked by Kotaku to call up Hasting so there is no telling if there have been talks between the two executives with regards to the collaboration.
For now, there is nothing set in stone yet with regards to the video on demand support on Nintendo Switch, but it certainly is on the agenda. When it will pan out remains to be seen at this time.
What fans can expect for now are Switch-exclusive rewards and perks on My Nintendo:
There are unique elements coming for Nintendo Switch. We'll be announcing those in due time. We do believe having a strong loyalty program for all of our products is important and certainly our fans appreciate it.
Fils-Aime also talked about providing Switch users the ability to play classic games considering the play style on the console. It is a concept that game designer Shigeru Miyamoto recently pitched, but there is nothing concrete on this front either, as per Fils-Aime:
We're gratified to have some of the best content ever created be unique to Nintendo platforms. We're also gratified by our community that they want to play this content. What we've said is that there's going to be some classic content that's part of the Nintendo Online proposition. We've said we will unveil more about that proposition next year before it launches.
