Nintendo Switch News: Will There Be Enough Console Units for the Holidays?

Nintendo is still uncertain if they can produce enough Nintendo Switch supplies for the approaching holiday season.

At an event held by Variety last week, Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime briefly discussed the dreaded question on many gamers' minds since the Nintendo Switch was launched: Will there be enough supplies of the portable console in stores soon?

The question has more value now that the holiday market is approaching. However, it looks like Nintendo is still scrambling to keep up with the demands, even though the Switch console has been out since early March.

In the said Variety event, Fils-Aime reiterated the company's goal to reach 10 million Nintendo Switch sales. However, it was noted that the Nintendo executive remained uncertain if they could accomplish that during the holiday season.

Fils-Aime said: "Are we going to have enough for the holiday? That's what we are focused on."

On the other hand, Fils-Aime is confident that the demand for the Nintendo Switch was enough to let them reach the 10 million sales. He was also certain that their supply chain could provide them with what they need to continuously produce Nintendo Switch units.

In late August, a Nintendo representative also addressed the issue of the Switch units' shortage and told the Wall Street Journal that they were speeding up the production of the console.

The company said: "We're doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so. We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast."

The Nintendo Switch proved to be a success bigger than what the company anticipated. Within the first three months of its market release, the company confirmed they had sold up to 4.7 million units of their hybrid portable console around the world. Considering the consistent supply shortages in all major retailers especially in North America, there is no doubt that Nintendo Switch has the ability to sell more.

A Nintendo Switch unit with Joy-Con controllers is priced $299.99 in authorized retailers. However, it is still hard to purchase one online so buyers are advised to visit the nearest store and check for its availability.
