Nintendo Switch Release Date, News: 'Yooka-Laylee' Gets Confirmed; More Indie Titles Announced

The wait is almost over for fans of the Nintendo brand as the handheld/ home console hybrid Nintendo Switch will be launching this coming Friday. The current lineup of games are still too few, to be honest, but today more indie games are officially announced, and most of them are enough reasons to make the switch.

During the Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase streamed yesterday, Nintendo of America Senior Manager for Partner Management Damon Baker boasts the harmonious relationship with independent studios that create great content. He points out that this was exactly what the Nintendo Switch was built for.

"Our team has been working closely with independent publishers and developers to secure a constant flow of innovative content that showcases the fun of playing games," Baker explains. "It's our mission to prioritize unique and original experiences and curate an amazing lineup of content that will feel perfectly at home with the Nintendo Switch."

Perhaps the most appealing indie title to grace the hybrid is Playtonic Games' "Yooka-Laylee." The 3D platformer has announced as early as December 2016 that plans of porting it on the Nintendo Switch are underway, and so this official reveal will definitely make fans all the more excited about both the title and the gaming hybrid.

The clamor for getting the title over to the upcoming handheld/console has been alive as early as October last year in community forums. Now that it has finally been confirmed, there is a lot for fans to look forward to in spite of not having a definite launch date yet.

Other noteworthy Nintendo Switch indie exclusives are "Runner 3" and "Pocket Rumble." "Runner 3" looks like it has the same mechanics as "Super Mario Run," but where it differs is the player's ability to double-jump and leave a rainbow trail behind. "Pocket Rumble," on the other hand, is an arcade fighting game that depicts simple 64-bit graphics with comprehensive controls.

There are 14 more indie titles introduced, and they give more reasons to get the newest gaming device. The Nintendo Switch arrives on March 3, 2017.
