Iron Man 4 Release Date: Robert Downey Jr Says No Plans in the Works, 3 Possibilities for the Future
Robert Downey Jr. has been a monumental figure in the Marvel film universe with his role as Iron Man, the charismatic leader of the Avengers team. His solo films as the Iron Man has already reached the limit of three films but only last year did Downey Jr. extend his contract for appearances in "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" and the inevitable "Avengers 3."
The extension could have also spelled a fourth "Iron Man" film but the actor himself confirmed that such a film was not in the works. Variety had gotten the opportunity to at least ask the actor about the possibility of a fourth Iron Man film.
"There isn't one in the pipe. No, there's no plan for a fourth Iron Man," Downey Jr. said.
Besides, long has Downey Jr. had the upper hand in negotiations with Marvel even going to a point where he had asked the company to pay him $50 million for his work in "The Avengers." The actor's tactics has even lead Joss Whedon to decide at some point about not having Downey Jr. in the "Avengers 2."
Still, it's not that hard to imagine the Marvel film universe without Iron Man since the company seemed to have done great with their recent film releases even without him. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" worked well enough to be blockbusters on their own without the help of Iron Man.
Still, if the possibility of a fourth Iron Man film existed, there are only three ways it could end. First, the plot could take the route towards the Marvel Civil War where the superheroes fought against each other, resulting in some deaths. Second, would be Tony Stark's downward spiral into alcoholism eventually stepping down as the leader of the Avengers.
Lastly, Iron Man 4 could just simply not happen and instead Tony Stark will be replaced by King T'Challa of Wakanda, also known as Black Panther.
