Nokia 3310 Release Date, Specs, News: Major Throwback Phone Not Yet Meant for the US

HMD Global successfully launched the major throwback phone, the Nokia 3310, this week. Unfortunately, it is reportedly not going to work properly yet in the United States.

There is no doubt about the significance that the Nokia 3310 holds in everyone's lives, especially back in the day when mobile phones were only meant for calling and texting, plus a little bit of gaming.

So despite the fact that rumors were rife about the Nokia 3310's comeback even before the Mobile World Congress event this week, people who witnessed its appearance in Barcelona, Spain were still starstruck.

Unfortunately, though, CNet reports that the 2017 version of the Nokia 3310 will not work in America for several technical reasons. For one, the new Nokia 3310 runs with 900-megahertz that telecommunication companies in the U.S. do not support at the moment.

However, people hoping to get the new Nokia 3310 should not lose hope just yet. HMD Global is well aware of the situation and CNet said the Finnish technology company had some talks with U.S. carriers during the 2017 MWC to try and hash out the problem.

For those who are in the U.S. and badly want their own Nokia 3310, they should not give up yet because it looks like even HMD Global is hoping to launch the device in the country. CNet quoted HMD's head of global marketing Patrick Mercanton saying, "It's not that we're not not launching in the US. It's that the US takes a little bit longer to ramp up."

The HMD Global exec added, "We'll probably end with the US at some point. It's definitely on our radar... we want to go into the US because we want to have a global launch."

And if HMD Global wants a successful launch, they have to figure it out with U.S. carriers because while the mobile phone can be bought through several online stores, many American customers still prefer to get their devices through a telecommunication company.

Upon launch, the new Nokia 3310 carries the price tag of €49 or just about $52.
