Nokia Lumia 1020 x Samsung Galaxy S3 Specs, Prices: Can Nokia Beat Samsung?
The Nokia Lumia 1020 was recently launched in the U.S. market and the new device has left some wondering whether they should buy a Windows Phone 8 rather than other prominent smartphones on the market such as Samsung Galaxy devices.
Below is a specs comparison between the popular Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Nokia Lumia 1020.
Camera
The most distinctive feature for the Lumia 1020 is that unlike other smartphones that are primarily phones that have cameras built in as an extra feature, the Lumia device is more like a fantastic mini-camera that happens to also be a smartphone.
The device will definitely be attractive to those who see the camera as the most important feature on their smartphone; the Lumia 1020 features a powerful 41-megapixel sensor and a front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels. It has six lenses and features Nokia's PureView imaging technology, with an LED and Xenon flash.
The Lumia 1020 also features Dual Capture technology, which takes two shots at the same time; one is meant for photo editing while the other offers compatibility for social media outlets.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has an 8MP rear and 1.9MP front camera, which combines video or images from the front and back cameras. The S3 also features geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, burst shot & best photo, recording snapshot, and HDR.
Screen
The S3 offers a bigger screen size, with a 4.8" SuperAMOLED, while the Lumia device features a 4.5-inch screen with 1,280x768 pixels covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Storage
The S3 has more choices for storage, with 16, 32 or 64GB options, and you can add up to 64GB on SD. Meanwhile, the Lumia 1020 offers just the 32 GB option.
Operation System
The Lumia 1020 comes with Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 operating system. The S3 has Android OS, v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), upgradeable to 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). If you have a very specific preference this feature could be a deal-breaker.
Prices
AT&T and Verizon have reportedly dropped the prices of the Galaxy S3 to just $99 with a 2-year contract.
The New Windows Phone 8 smartphone, exclusive for AT&T, has a starting price of $299.99 when signing a two-year contract.
