Nokia Lumia 920 Release Date Coming Soon for UK Carrier

The Nokia Lumia 920 release date is coming soon for the U.K. carrier known as Three.

The company will finally be carrying the Windows Phone 8-powered device after another carrier known as EE had exclusive rights to the handset since its initial launch. EE's contract is about to expire, and that means Three will finally have the ability to offer the Lumia 920 to its customers.

The Nokia Lumia 920 release on Three has been highly anticipated since EE's pricing scheme was not enticing to smartphone customers in the U.K. Three has had the HTC 8X, which is the other flagship Windows Phone 8 device available for quite some time.

The Nokia Lumia 920 launched on AT&T on Nov. 9, 2012 and was Nokia's first Windows 8 Phone in the U.S. market. The device was first unveiled by the company in September.

The Lumia 920 is the successor to the somewhat popular Lumia 800, which ran the previous Windows operating system. The two Nokia handsets share close to identical appearances.

Nokia hopes to capitalize off Microsoft's latest operating system and make itself a valid competitor to Apple and Samsung.

Verizon is also rumored to be a carrier that will offer the Lumia 920 in the future; however, this has not been confirmed by either Nokia or Verizon. If AT&T grabbed a 3-month exclusive with the handset, no other major American carriers will have the Lumia 920 until 2013.

The Nokia Lumia 920 features a brightly colored plastic body and a spring mounted 8.7-megapixel camera. It also comes with new software called City Lens that displays the names of restaurants and shops when users point the camera in their direction.

Other features on the handset include Windows Phone 8, and a 4.5-inch screen.
