Nokia Lumia 930 vs. HTC One M8: Spec and Feature Comparison

The Nokia Lumia 930 debuted today and appears to be a top-of-the-line device that will have to compete with the likes of the HTC M8 and Galaxy S5.

The new device features top notch specs and could give the recently unveiled HTC and Samsung handsets a run for their money. It is also the first Windows 8.1 OS based smartphone to be released in the Lumia line. The HTC One M8 debuted last week and gained a fair amount of media attention for its polished metal exterior and overall solid design. Here is a brief comparison of the two.

The HTC One M8 comes with a polished metal exterior that is available in 4 different shades. The smartphone is quite heavy but has a classy look thanks to the company's choice of material. The Lumia 930 comes with a colored backing and all black front. It actually resembles the iPhone 5c and has a similar appeal. However, it lacks the aesthetics of the HTC One M8 that suits business people and those looking for the perfect accessory.

Processor

The Lumia 930 packs a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU with 2GB of RAM and runs Windows 8.1 OS. The HTC One M8 packs a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU with 2GB of RAM. Both of these smartphones are extremely fast. The HTC One M8 may have a slight win in the numbers department, but the speed differences probably wouldn't be noticeable for the average smartphone user. These handsets are close to being even here.

Display

The Nokia Lumia 930 comes with a 5-inch AMOLED display with 1920x1080 resolution at 441 ppi. The HTC One packs a 5-inch LCD display with the same resolution at 441 ppi. The numbers are dead even in this area making this a tough pick. It really comes down to LCD vs. AMOLED. I prefer LCD as the colors seem more vibrant. However, this appears to be another department where the smartphones are really close.

Camera

The Lumia 930 comes with a 20-megapixel Pureview camera that has a dual-LED flash. The HTC One M8 features a 4-megapixel dual-camera on the back. Each company went a different route when it comes to picture taking technology. It will take some time before users can decide which one went in the better direction. Either way, it is safe to say both of these handsets are great for picture taking.

Conclusion

Both of these smartphones are extremely impressive in their own right. They are so close in certain areas that it is hard to choose which one is superior. This really comes down to a matter of preference.
