Norway Shooting, Bombing: Gunman Surprised He 'Succeeded' in Last Weeks Massacre
Anders Behring Breivik, the suspect in the recent Norwegian bombing and shootings that killed 76 people, has confessed to his lawyer Tuesday that he was “a little bit surprised that he could pull the attack off.”
His lawyer, Geir Lippestad told a news conference that his client was “surprised - surprised in his own mind” that his plan was a success; also adding that Breivik never thought he would reach Utoya Island, where he is accused of shooting 68 people dead.
Breivik also used some kind of drugs which he took to keep himself strong and awake during the attacks on Friday, according to Lippestad.

The lawyer also stated that it was too early to say whether Breivik will plead insanity or not, and when asked if his client was insane, Lippestad replied: “Yes, he may be.”
Breivik claims he was in touch with two other cells in Norway, and possibly others abroad, but says that he acted alone when carrying out last week’s brutal killings, according to his lawyer.
“He says there are several cells around the Western World where I do not know,” said Lippestad.
Breivik considers himself “in a war” according to Lippestad who also stated that his client was “very tired” due to his current circumstances.
Lippestad stated that Breivik was not injured during the attacks and that he believes his client can get a fair trial.
According to police, prosecutors are considering charging Breivik with crimes against humanity. The current charges he is facing are terror related that carry a maximum 21 year sentence if proven guilty.
Jens Breivik, the suspects father, made a statement to TV2 concerning his son’s murders: “In my darkest moments, I think rather than killing all those people, he should have taken his own life.”
He also stated in the interview that he believes his son has mental issues.
The father spoke out for the victims of the shooting: “I would like to say that I feel an incredible grief and despair over what has happened. I often think of how terrible it must be for those who are affected by this. I wish I could do something for them, but here I am, powerless to do anything.”
