NSYNC Reunion 2013 Still On for MTV's VMA's?
NSync reunion rumors persist as the 2013 MTV VMA's near on Sunday.
The boy band rose to fame in 1998 with hits such as "I Want You Back" and "It's Tearin' Up My Heart," among many others, and went on to sell millions of album copies around the world.
Rumors that Justin Timberlake and the rest of his former group-mates will be reuniting for the first time began earlier this week, creating uproar on social media sites.
Reports indicated that Timberlake, J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick would gather onstage together at Sunday's VMA's for the first time since their disbandment in 2002. NSync's members reuniting in the VIP section at Timberlake's concert with Jay-Z last week may have sparked the rumors.
Furthermore, Timberlake will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his "pioneering and innovative impact" on music videos in the past, and an NSync reunion may serve as another celebration of the award.
NSync fans flooded Twitter with messages of excitement over the possible reunion at the VMA's.
While Timberlake nor MTV has confirmed a reunion performance, Lance Bass addressed the hearsay during his Sirius radio show earlier this week. Bass did not outright deny the rumors, and added that the speculation came as no surprise to him.
"Now I have to address the rumors, of course," Bass started on Tuesday. "This morning I woke up to a lot of rumors flying that the NSync reunion is happening after eleven years at the VMA's this Sunday. Well, let me tell you how this all came about. Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we're going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly."
The 34-year-old noted that his own previous Instagram post of himself, Fatone, and Kirkpatrick at Timberlake's concert contributed rumors of a reunion, but only confirmed that fans' reactions were "amazing."
"It's amazing to see the reaction out there on Twitter and social media of how many people really are supporting NSync," Bass said on his radio show. "It's so nice to see because when we ended things ten years ago, there was no social media. There was no Twitter fans, that type of stuff, but it's so cute to see how many people are supporting it and NSync was even trending."
Meanwhile, Joey Fatone's father reportedly confirmed NSync's reunion performance at the VMA's, according to Radar Online.
"They're doing a performance," he said. "I think it's exciting."
NSync fans continue to flood Twitter with high hopes about the band's VMA's reunion, but the performance has yet to be guaranteed.
Nevertheless, the 2013 VMA's will take place at Brooklyn, New York's Barclays Center on Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
