Nvidia to Launch Quad-Core Tablets Through Kai Platform as Kindle Fire Competitor
Nvidia plans to launch its line of Tegra 3 quad-core tablets sometime this summer.
Rob Csonger, the VP of Nvidia, revealed that the company will begin developing this new line of tablets using its new Kai Platform that will allow it to keep the device in the $199 price range. This makes them a direct competitor for the wildly popular Amazon Kindle Fire.
Nvidia's quad-core devices will also run Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

"Our strategy on Android is simply to enable quad-core tablets running Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be developed and brought out to market at the $199 price point, and the way we do that is a platform we've developed called Kai," said Csonger. He explained to investors on how the Kai line will be low priced to compete with the Kindle Fire.
"So this uses a lot of the secret sauce that's inside Tegra 3 to allow you to develop a tablet at a much lower cost, by using a lot of innovation that we've developed to reduce the power that's used by the display and use lower cost components within the tablet," continued Csonger.
He also stated that once the line of tablets launches, he thinks they will be named something completely different than Kai.
If Nvidia could pull this all off, the Amazon Kindle Fire will have a serious competitor. It seems that the company is trying to create a truly high-end tablet with a low price tag.
Google also has plans to put out a direct competitor for Amazon's device.
Once the Kindle caught fire, all of these electronics companies realized there was money to be made in this area of the market.
And it probably makes more sense to compete with Amazon's low-end device, than do so with Apple's high-end iPad.
