NY Knicks NBA trade rumors 2016: Interested in acquiring Brandon Jennings

The New York Knicks are no longer a ridiculed team this season, at least in the early part of it. They're winning games and performing a lot better compared to last season's disaster. With Carmelo Anthony and rookie sensation Kristaps Porzingis leading the way, the only missing piece is a reliable point guard.

That's why head coach Derek Fisher and the front office is interested in acquiring the recently healed Brandon Jennings of the Detroit Pistons. The 26-year old suffered a left Achilles tendon injury that forced him to miss almost a year. And when the Pistons signed Reggie Jackson last year, Jennings' role in the Motor City will certainly be diminished.

The Knicks have a bunch of very capable point guards, including Spanish veteran Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant. However, they're not really expected to provide explosive scoring nights compared to that of Jennings. The team is currently 12th in the Eastern Conference, but if they get Jennings before the trade deadline, they certainly will have a better chance of climbing and hopefully reach the playoffs – a feat they haven't done for a long time.

New York is still Anthony's team and Porzingis is definitely a franchise player in the future. However, both players need help in practically all positions, but more importantly the point guard spot. If they wish to get above .500, Fisher and front office headman Phil Jackson will have to act fast.

Jennings is a type of point guard who has tons of potential, and unlike Calderon or Grant, he is worthy of a long term contract, provided he's going to be healthy the rest of the way. But it still would be an intriguing thought if Jennings can actually thrive in the triangle offense run by Fisher in New York. Well, it's something interesting to see for sure.

There is certainty that Jennings is on his way out of Detroit with Jackson's stellar play, but the question is will he be going to New York or somewhere else?
