Oculus Rift Pre-Order Offers Free 'EVE: Valkyrie'

Oculus is giving away a free copy of the virtual reality (VR) game "EVE: Valkyrie" for every pre-order of the Oculus Rift headset.

The Oculus Rift VR headset is expected to be officially launched in the first quarter of 2016. In a statement, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey talked about "EVE: Valkyrie" and explained why the game was chosen as the one to be given away for customers who will pre-order the headset, according to PC Mag.

"'EVE: Valkyrie' is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development," PC Mag quotes Luckey's statement. "… Battling your friends (and enemies) in multiplayer space dogfights is the ultimate VR thrill, and we're excited to partner with CCP to bring this experience to Rift owners everywhere."

Luckey also said "EVE: Valkyrie" is the perfect epitome of "immersive gaming" because it will launch players into sci-fi missions where they will fly a spaceship and engage in combat, Tech Times reports.

Oculus' latest announcement is aligned with its statement last year about its intention to co-publish "EVE: Valkyrie" with CCP games and make it an exclusive launch game for the VR headset, the report notes. The said title is a spin-off from the game "EVE: Online MMO," the report details.

Because of its sci-fi settings, "EVE: Valkyrie" is seen as a great fit for VR games. The title's executive producer Owen O'Brien said these settings provide them with a lot of wiggle room to create things that feel comfortable when used in VR, the report relays.

The Oculus Rift will be the first VR headset that will have a consumer version when it launches early next year. The start date and pricing details of pre-orders, however, have not yet been confirmed. More information about the VR headset are expected to surface in the coming weeks.
